We can enjoy Chinese food wherever we live. Of course, Japan is no exception. There are plenty of Chinese restaurants in Japan, and it is easy to access them even if you live in a suburb.
Today, I went to a Chinese restaurant called Unryu after leaving work. Its red billboard is quite conspicuous at night.
I like Chinese restaurants because I can eat a large amount of delicious food at an affordable price. Many Chinese restaurants in Japan offer sets that include both ramen and rice.
The picture below shows a menu that allows you to choose your preferred combination of ramen and rice.
I ordered the Taiwan miso ramen and Tenshinhan, which is my favorite rice dish that I always order. While I'm familiar with Tenshinhan, I've never tried Taiwan miso ramen before. In Japan, both Taiwan ramen and miso ramen are popular, but I think it's rare to see them combined like this.
Although the dishes were a bit heavy for me, I really enjoyed them. It seems that Chinese restaurants in Japan are evolving and changing their menus from the original Chinese cuisine. I'm curious to know what Chinese food is like in other countries. What is it like in your country?
Chinese food in the UK tends to be Cantonese food, because most Chinese immigrants to the UK come from southern China. Sweet and sour chicken and pork are popular, there's often a turntable to rotate dishes in the middle of the table, hot towels to wipe hands on (rare at restaurants in the UK) and jasmine tea to finish off. I read an article about a girl (the owner's child) who grew up in a Chinese restaurant in the UK. She wasn't allowed to eat the dishes they served in the restaurant as her parents thought they were too rich and sweet!
